Roy Garrett was born and raised in Columbus, Indiana and has a passion for motorcycles. In 1954, he bought his first two-wheeler, a Cushman Scooter. In 1970, Roy purchased his first race bike and raced motocross, hare scrambles, and enduros. He quit all racing in 1955.
In 1983, he became heavily involved in AMA, District 15, and club business. That same year, Roy became the referee for Stoney Lonesome M/C and District 15. He became the District 15 Off Road Congressman to AMA and the President of Stoney Lonesome M/C in 1988. He held the office of President for a total of eight years.
Roy helped start the organization known as D.I.R.T. (Discover Indiana Riding Trails) in 1994. He has served as either Vice-President or President from the beginning until now. In 2009, D.I.R.T. merged with Abate, and Roy is now the Director of Off Road for Abate of Indiana. Roy has also been a representative for NOHVCC (National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council) for the state of Indiana from 1996 to 2009. He held a seat on the Governor’s Trails Advisory Board for several years.
